Atrium
Office Center Lansing, Michigan Originally built in the 1920's, the original Strand Theatre, ballroom, and shopping arcade was completely renovated into a first-class commercial office/retail center as part of a City of Lansing revitalization project. The project features a central atrium and a domed foyer where careful attention was paid to the intricate restoration of damaged plaster detailing and decorative painting. New openings were located in the ground floor to allow light from the atrium to reach the lower level. New limestone detailed to match the original terracotta on the building exterior replaces the terracotta that had been destroyed during an earlier remodeling. Although the theatre itself could not be restored, the grand central staircase was preserved and serves as a focal point of the office center.
