John Barker and John Hinkley:

Celebrating Anniversaries with Hobbs+Black

Executive Vice President and Principal-In-Charge, John Barker came to work at Hobbs+Black Architects in 1982 after graduating from Lawrence Technological University.  He gained his registration after completing the NCARB IDP requirements in 1989.  John began working on a variety of projects that have become landmarks in Ann Arbor.  In 1993, John attended a Primary Care Symposium at Harvard University where he established a focus on working on the design of healthcare related buildings.  John's knowledge has him confidently leading the direction of our Healthcare and Senior Living Studios.

John Barker’s contribution in healthcare design can be seen in the numerous projects he has worked on.  In his time at the firm, Mr. Barker has worked on notable projects in healthcare such as Aldara Hospital and Medical Center in Riyadh Saudi Arabia, Tucson Medical Center, Phoenix Children's Hospital West Pavilion, William Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak Cancer Center, Detroit Medical Center Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan and McLaren Health Campus/Clarkston Ambulatory Care Center.

Executive Vice President and Principal-In-Charge, John Hinkley began at Hobbs+Black in 1972 after graduating from the University of Michigan with a Master in Architecture.  John became a registered architect in 1974.  John’s professional and civic affiliations include the American Institute of Architects and in 2007 he was awarded with a 20+ Years of Service Award from the Huron Valley AIA Chapter. John served as the Mayor of the Village of Manchester for six years and also as the Chairperson of the Planning Commission and as a member of the Historic District Commission.

In his time at the firm, Mr. Hinkley has worked on notable projects in Ann Arbor such as the renovation of the historic Hobbs+Black Corporate Headquarters, Sloan Plaza and One North Main. He has been Principal in Charge of over twelve Taubman Company Projects for over thirty years starting with Cherry Creek Shopping Center in Denver, Colorado to our largest office project, City Creek Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
