Shops Ann Arbor, Michigan This
renovation and expansion project joined together three formerly vacant,
dilapidated warehouses dating from 1874 to create a unique collection of
specialty shops, restaurants and indoor markets. A section of the
complex also functions as an outdoor Farmers Market. The
buildings are interconnected by two covered bridges, allowing convenient
circulation throughout the complex. Outdoor areas between the buildings
were developed into beautifully landscaped, brick-paved courtyards to accommodate
pedestrian traffic as well as offer places for relaxation and special events. The
new copper-roofed brick tower serves as a unifying focal point and the
brick veneer carefully matches the detailing of the adjacent older building.
The interior decoration focuses on a theme of bright, vibrant colors, making
the shops an inviting place to visit.
