Outdoor Adventure Center

Detroit, Michigan

The 150-year-old Globe Building, which originally housed the Dry Dock Engine Works, has been transformed into a year-round Outdoor Adventure Center for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The former ship building facility preserves and highlights the majority of the original structural steel and interior and exterior brick walls, and re-purposed over 40,000 original bricks. Various simulated activities provide outdoor recreation experiences, while exhibits and displays feature the natural and cultural resources and outdoor activities found in Michigan’s parks and recreation areas. Check out our news page for more on the open house and ribbon cutting.
