Saint Mary Mercy Hospital

livonia, Michigan

St. Mary Mercy has incorporated new programs, as well as improved operations, many already resulting in higher patient volumes. The first upgrade was the conversion of the 304 licensed beds to an all private model. Next was an expanded Emergency Department which incorporates the Senior Center ER, the Behavioral Health adaptable rooms, and exam rooms surrounding an open staff core. Separating the core from the public minimizes staff disruption during their routines, minimizing errors in patient care due to distractions. The second and third floors of the ED addition are made up of 40 private bed units which are accessible to the ED and the Surgery Department and incorporate decentralized Nurse Work Stations positioned between patient rooms. The addition is connected to the existing facility via a corridor which overlooks a healing garden and is lined with interior planters complete with full sized trees in the two story volume.  The exteriors of the building at both the north and south entrances were also updated.
